Figures and Environment Sketch

Thought I'd share some figure drawings. The Color rough was a fun experiment (10min). I usually rely heavily on lines in my work but it is amazing how fast you can establish things in paint. Might incorporate that into my process more in the future.
The quick figures down there are 5 minutes. Note to self: More curves!
And another environment experiment. Not more than an hour or so. It's all about the silhouettes! I'll have to rely on those more when painting.

Mech and Pilot

Ideations for the mech of a space nomad. Living on board of their ships they rebel against the empire that drove them off their homeworld.
The "Mosquito" is built to hijack and board enemy carriers, freighters and even capital ships without causing fatal damage. After taking out one of the enemies sensor arrays with one of the three anti-radiation missiles it quickly and stealthy closes in on the target. It then tears open airlocks or hullpieces in order to infiltrate the ship and clear a landing zone for the boarding parties of the nomads.

Naomi is a nomad Mosquito pilot. Her sash stores all the tools, air and heat she needs. She fights to defend and support her family, the nomads.

Queen Aphrodite

On her planet mechanical bodyparts are a sign of wealth and beauty. She is the most beautiful and feared of them all.

And some of my sketches for her. Had a few eyeopeners about my own process about this one. Especially the stylization of the mechanical parts was fun. Loosely inspired by some High Fashion, Egyptian shapes and symbols, and Islamic architecture.

Core Overload

The game I worked on for the past year being presented at the Intel Booth at GDC'13. Awesome stuff, so happy to have been a part of this team. What's better than concepting a ton of space ships?

Here's a short video as well.
